Making Spirits Bright: Homes Built for the Holidays
Christmas isn’t just a date on the calendar; it’s an experience. It’s twinkling lights, candlelight services, kids tearing through wrapping paper, and family gathered around the tree. At Su Casa, we believe a dream home isn’t complete unless it sets the stage for special moments such as these. That’s why we work with families to create spaces that shine during the holidays—and every other day too. Here are some stories straight from our clients (and one from Andy too!) about designing homes that truly bring out the Christmas cheer.
1. A Home with the Tree in the Spotlight
“When I first met with Andy, I told him, ‘We love decorating for Christmas—it’s one of our favorite things to do,’” recalls Ranj Gill. “In our old house, the family room was the heart of the holidays, but you could only see the tree from that one room. I told him, ‘I want to see the tree from other rooms as well.’”
So, Su Casa made it happen.
When you walk into Ranj’s home, the first thing to catch your eye is the Christmas tree glowing in the corner of the great room (pictured). “We were going to enclose the wall next to the fireplace,” Ranj shares, “but Andy suggested we leave it open so the tree would stay in view from the front door. I love it—it’s perfect!”
And the details didn’t stop there. “We even tucked a plug under the mantle for the garland, so there are no cords showing,” Ranj adds with a laugh. “It’s the details.” (can you spot the subtle outlet in the image above? Ready for use with a longer garland!)
2. Putting the Tree Front and Center (Literally)
Andy himself got the Christmas itch when designing his home a few years back. “I’d always dreamed of having a massive tree in the great room,” Andy says. “So, when we designed the space, we moved the fireplace off-centre to make room for it. Most people would put the fireplace at the peak of the room, but I wanted the tree to be the centerpiece during the holidays.”
And it certainly is. The soaring 12’ Christmas tree reaches up into the vaulted, 14’ peak, making it a showstopper. “It’s not just about aesthetics,” Andy explains. “It’s about creating a space where my family can gather, celebrate, and make memories year after year.”
3.Thinking Ahead, Even in July
At Su Casa, we’re often knee-deep in holiday planning...in the middle of summer. Take Derrick and Andie Westbrook, for example. These two were thinking about garlands and mantle lights while the rest of us were flipping burgers on the BBQ. We added an outlet under their mantle just for their holiday décor. No ugly cords here—just festive lights making the whole room glow. “It’s such a simple detail, but it changes everything,” Andie says. “It’s the kind of thing you don’t think about, but then when it comes time to plug in a garland, you’re so glad it’s there.” (can you spot the hidden outlet, below? Ready and waiting for that garland!)
That’s the thing about good design: it’s the little details, like a plug in the right spot, that adds functionality without compromising design. It’s about making your home work for you, no matter the season.
A Home for Every Season
At Su Casa, we believe a home isn’t just where you hang your hat—it’s where you make memories, big and small. Whether it’s seeing the kids’ faces light up on Christmas morning or hosting your crew for a backyard BBQ, your home should feel like it’s built just for you.
